MONTESSORI CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER (MCDC KARACHI)

Okay how many of you are dying to have your child admitted in this school? Montessori Child Development Centre is known to be one of the prestigious schools in Karachi mainly in North Nazimabad. There was a time when I myself dreamt of having my daughter enrolled there, impressed by what I heard and of course their record ’was’ good. But thank God I missed the registration period due to which my daughter now won’t be in that school at all.
MCDC isn’t following the proper Montessori Method at all. Yes, they do have Montessori material work but do not present it as it should be presented. But as a Montessori Directress myself and having experience from different schools, I don’t really mind this fact as most schools prefer to be hybrid rather than following the typical Montessori system. But MCDC showed themselves to be different from other schools by telling people that they strictly follow Montessori system. This I have heard myself when I went there for enquiry. This lie is very much misguiding.

2nd thing is the directresses there aren’t up to the mark. They seem to be not trained at all. They practice physical punishment and use inappropriate language. Oh yeah, there’s no sign of English there except for the front desk lady, so please don’t go for what she says only. Due to the teachers’ inappropriate approach towards the students, the kids are scared and when they make mistake, they behave as if they committed a crime. Well whatever the reason is, physical punishment and use of bad language doesn’t leave a good impact on kids.

3rd issue is their written work isn’t as good as is expected from them. Most of their artwork is done by the teachers themselves and shown to the innocent parents who think it’s their kids work. Reasons for this are mainly showing off to the parents how good their students’ work is.

4th issue is they don’t have proper planner that is being followed. A teacher has to be well prepared before entering the class. She needs to prepare her lesson planner on weekly basis But there isn’t any planner followed there, which means the teacher is not prepared at all, and when you’re not prepared before hand, this shows a very careless management and a less involved teacher.

These are the information I have for you till now and I’ll be updating this post as soon as I have more to share about MCDC. Reason for sharing facts about this school is to save kids from a disaster. I hope this can help lots of you.

Salma Kamal of the Mariam Child Development Centre (MCDC) admits that children put under immense pressure. "I admit we are not a montessori in the true sense but what we do is essential," she explained. The MCDC is one of those montessories in the city that claim to have a 70 per cent success rate in entrance tests. Though Salma admits they don't follow the actual montessori concept, she justifies it by saying that "no child will pass the test if we start following the system because it refrains from forcing a child to learn, which is not practical for test system."

  2. Mariam Child Development Center is an exceptional case as they aren't the typical montessorians at all since they are mainly preparatory centre. But Montessori Child Development Center claim to be one Who follows The system strictly.

  5. Well dear that's sad to hear your daughter is there. I think there's not much that you can do now not unless you observe something different in your daughter's behavior or if she's complaining about her teacher or if you're not satisfied with her performance. You can always take these matters to the management and see how they tackle these problems. But if your child is doing quite well there, then i see no reason to worry maybe your daughter's teacher is good then. My advice to all parents is to be very vigilant and observant regarding their child's behavior and always listen to any complain they have because that's the only way you'll know about the school.

  6. i hope everyone is having a good day.
I'm a parent whose 4 children have studied from Montessori Child Development center and i'm very satisfied with the school. The teachers are very trained and experts with the children and the management is also very helpful. I believe MCDC is doing a great job!
i wish them best of luck for the future and i sincerely believe they'll continue improving!!
    have a nice day:)

  7. I Think there is alittle bit confusion here because there are two MCDC as in (montessori child development center and Mariam child development center)and you bet both are totally different mont. cdc follow montessori system completely i have my son n nephew studying there n as for Mariam cdc they are merely a preparatory center my other nephews used to study thr and they put immense pressure on small children and drive both parents and children nuts seriously

  8. Dear I'm sure this post is for Montessori Child Development Center. I'm pretty much aware of Mariam.CDC as well as you will find a post regarding this school too in my blog. With due respect your opinion is of a parents' and mine is of someone who is part of the school itself. I'm glad to hear that you are satisfied as my concerns are the kids. So , if your child is doing well there then it's really good.

  12. i've been searching of an *ideal school* for my son, he'll be two next month inshaAllah so now i dont really have much time left to make my final decision but seriously every time i think that i've found one i hear/read something negative about the specific school/mont. I started with Beacon house school system, then it was head start, generations, marium montessori, child development center but sadly all of them have some issues...
now i am seriously going to have depression cus its been almost 6 months and i'm unable to find a good school for my kid... =( =(

  13. Hi Mrs. Waseem,
I would like to make it clear here that Bee Zee is a Montessori School who prepares kids to get admission in big schools that is why it's called preparation centre. So you really don't have to choose between the two since you have both in the same school. For schools that follow Montessori System , 'ideally' the children are not burdened because Montessori itself means to give space and time to the child whenever he/she is ready to learn. But for that, you need not to enroll your child in "so called" Montessori schools and Bee Zee in my view is that "ideal school" for you at the moment. You don't need to be depressed but relax and take it easy. I know this is tough task but you are getting very well with your search. You should visit Bee Zee and have a talk with Bano Aunty there. She's the principal.
Regarding my daughter I already had her admitted in Bee Zee but I cancelled the admission since we had to move to Dubai. Otherwise my choice is Bee Zee. I have my niece who completed her pre-primary there and my sister -in-law who experienced working with Bambini which is a sister school of Bee Zee.
I hope I'm able to help. Pls. feel free to ask more questions if you have any.

  14. thanks for the reply Naveeka!!

i've just visited all three of them, Bambini, BeeZee and MCDC (not marium) ... as far as Bambini goes i dint like the environment over all, especially its building it was quite hot there and its almost winter here in Khi. you know how hot it gets then... plus there wasn't any play area for children's physical development, which in my opinion is a must because once they get back home they don't really get time for any physical activities.. also the classes and their material looked quite old and i won't say dirty but yeah not clean either..

BeeZee's reception was closed when i reached so i'll have to go again there..

and MCDC was fine as far as the overall environment concerned, i liked it.. certainly i dont know about there teaching pattern so that's the main concern...

there's a family friend of mine (she herself is a AMI trained montessori directress and currently working a leading school since 5-6 years) her son, nieces nephews i mean all the kids (around 10-12) are going in Generation but just one kids couldn't get admission there so they enrolled him in MCDC (again not marium) and according to her his nephew's concepts were far more clear and better than the rest of the kids..

see lots of different opinions =)

ok one more question how about getting my child enrolled directly to Generation's/headstart (or any other good school) pre-school?? and later on i can take test for BVS or any other convent school and if he gets admission there i'll transfer him otherwise i would have generation's olevel option open for him?? or mont/prep center are the better options, what would suggest?

    Mrs. Waseem

  15. Hi,

Yes that's the problem with Bambini ...the environment isn't up to the mark but studies is good though. Montessori Child Development Center (MCDC) isn't my choice at all since I don't have good impression when I visited. But of course decision is yours. :) I'd say visit Bee Zee around 10am so you'll get to see kids in the class and can get a look at how their teachers are with kids. I too visited many schools before choosing that for my daughter but of course you can't find a perfect one. Among them Bee Zee was the best.

okay regarding your question. First of all you should be sure what you want your child to proceed with. Whether you want him so badly to be in BVS or any other convent schools or you want him to just get on with o-levels or you want him to simply to enjoy pre-school while learning and be prepared for tests for big schools. I those three cases you will have it clear where to put your child then. If you want him to be in convent schools , for that he needs a preparation center then, that's where Bee Zee, MCDC comes. But if you're okay with any good o-level school then generations is good for you. Your child can always start his schooling in Generations and just continue with it. But you cannot expect Generations to prepare your child for convent schools because they prepare their child according to their syllabus mainly.
conclusion: If you want convent schools, go for preparation centres and if you want a school where your child just continue with his o-levels then go for Generations. Mind you Generations do not follow the Montessori system. They have the traditional one.

    1. Hi, I don't know why I get this feeling that you are actually trying to give a bad name to Montessori Child Development Center. You actually sound like a BIG NO to this school as if you have some personal problem with the administration of the school.. Your comment should be neutral not bias.. and also got this impression that you are marketing Bambini, Bee Zee & Ms. Ayesha.. Pls. be neutral and try to help parents not confuse them more.. Thank you.

Can you please tell me about its fee structure, age of child at the time of registration and admission, class duration, etc

    Thanks

  24. I think I know the answer to that. Upon registration, you will need to pay;
    1. 15000 -that's admission fees
    2. 1200-1400 monthly,i'm not sure.
    3. Payment of first two months
Pls keep in my this fee structure was of May2011 and I don't know if there are any changes. This was the fees back then whrn I had my daughter admitted there. 15000 is a must upon admission. Th rd test you can always pay the 2nd time you're there

  27. Hello everyone,
First of all my daughter didn't need to pass any exams since she was supposed to be enrolled in a playgroup so I think this would answer your assumption that I've developed a hatred for the mentioned school.
Regarding helping parents, this is how I would help by giving information about schools whether good or bad. All information in my blog is my personal opinion and I will continue giving all necessary information to parents who needs them.
If i say any good thing about a school, you think I am promoting and if bad you think I have personal issues with them :)

Kindly also give advice on how should I be giving information about schools. I do not want to misguide anyone and final decision is always parents' so what I have to say is my personal experience with these schools and people.

I will definitely promote what I think is good!
    Thank you.

  28. I think people would come to this blog and "try" to "influence" their opinions into your thoughts/experience, which is ok, its a natural human psyche. I would not care much about them, rather I would add a disclaimer on my blog, that these opinions are personal and based upon personal experience; and does not reflect any biased opinions, nor does it intended to bring good/bad to anyone; these are just "lessons-learned-out-of-experience".

    3. Not a great idea of looking for a pre school which has air conditioned and computerised classrooms. Reason one : inhibits child's movements ,inhibits exploration, independence ultimately resulting to lack of confidence and lack of adaptationLook for classrooms with Work oriented activities which can develop the qualities of personality. Finally achieving the academic targets. Thus the mrs mohiuddins Montessori ,first step, and the academy is definite NO.I have seen many montessories in north naz and found BEEZEE as best. Still parents should still know the difference of a good Montessori Or a bad Montessori Bambini has detoriarated tremendously after the break up of partnership as the new owner has no experience of Montessori work She is basically a regular teacher by profession. MCDC has no Montessori trained head or owner to guide them.Little leaders is a school aiming at academic s which falls without the foundation work therefore the child finally falls in later classes of 2 and 3 ahead.

  32. This is ur post: In ur post i think you not mentioned any thing mean gulshan or north nazimabad branch? Plase check u know its matter of a baby future and 2nd u r doing good work for parents. I can only pray for u. Thanks

The 2nd school we visited was MCDC (Mariam Child Development Centre). Who doesn’t know about this school? But again I was disappointed with what I experienced in my short visit. We approached their male receptionist who at the time was dealing with a parent. Let me tell you, that wasn’t how I would talk to parents who want admission in my school. Again parents dealing …..ZERO! The receptionist showed his arrogance when he should be polite and welcoming. Anyway, our Principal introduced herself to him and after 3 minutes of thinking he asked us to sit and wait. We were made to sit outside in their open area. From there both of us could see just about everything except the inside of the classrooms. What I noticed first was the lists they posted on the walls. Those were lists of students who qualified for St.Pat’s, St. Paul’s ,Mama Parsi etc etc and one group of names was written on an ivory sheet, the other on printout sheets , the other on ordinary papers and all handwritten which showed how hurriedly the assigned person wrote the names. Wherever has presentation gone??? It’s good news for God’s sake!! The children got admission in those well know schools!!!At least it should have been written in a very good handwriting or printed out and pasted on very good sheets that would look uniform.

While looking at all these, I recalled interviewing a teacher from MCDC who had nothing good to say about the school and at that moment I was sure 70% of what she said was true!

These are just two of those schools where most of the parents dream to get their kids admitted there, but the points I’ve mentioned might not be of significant to most parents and they tend to ignore it. But please….. a school, who cannot welcome you or can’t be polite with you, can hardly teach your child to be polite as well. Every child wants importance, how can you expect such a school to value your child when they can’t even write your child’s name properly?? In the world of Pre-Primary presentation is very important. I’ll be discussing about presentations in my future posts.

Parents please be very observant as it’s a matter of your child’s learning process!

About The Academy , i ve had my personal experience with them when i was looking for a good school for my son and unfortunately ended up enrolling him there. That school is All Boards and good Building. Academically its below zero. teachers are just a show off they scare little kids. thay are poorly following beaconhouse teaching and training methods. they have hired an ex beaconhouse head who is good for nothing. teachers wear revealing clothes whis leaves a bad impression on children. language proficiency is zero. Iqra university is also in the same building and children go there quite easily. the school is all commercial business. the owner's own children study at beaconhouse im a witness to it. Do not go for the academy it is a pathetic school. their only emphasis is making the building as much attractive as possible. academically its not sound at all... parents beware!

    2. Absolutely right... mark my words... DO NOT GO TO ACADEMY... we live in next building and this school is very noisy... all high volume music... not thinking about neighbours at all... so if school does not care then how can they teach manners to others. They are just fancy clothed teachers with bad attitude... i had to remove my kid because he did not want to go to school and teachers punish as well.

  45. okay and that pathetic fake reputation holder MONTESSORI CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTRE! blind are the ones who are dying to get their child admitted there. those people are sick! no doubt it was once the best mont in north naz only when mrs. khalid was running it and afterwards when mrs. muhiuddin was the head till 2011 but after that it has become a mental asylum. that front desk lady is so full of herself and the aunty inside interviews children who are only 2.5 .... give me a break ... children at this age are so unpredictable how can one interview them! they abuse children ... they scare them... their method of teaching is ratta.... ratta... ratta.... children copy from the board and then learn it by heart. teachers do children's work to impress innocent parents.there is english speaking environment there at all. even the school building is so inappropriate. i am telling you all this on the basis of personal experience and form the experiences of those people who have actually worked there and left for good. i made the biggest mistake of my life 2 years bak but luckily i withdrew my child immediatel. parents please open your eyes and if you still want your child to go there then be very very vigilent

    1. Thank you for your feedback. Seems like you really had a bad time with them.
Just wondering what you mean by ratta? I mean ideally kids till the age of 6 isn't supposed to be copying anything from the board. And if it's a Montessori system then I really am wondering what are they copying?

      Delete
    2. they write few lines on the board and children copy it ten times and eventually learn it same goes with 1 to 100 copying and then remembering.this is not the healthy way to teach concepts COPYING, LEARNING SOMETHING BY LOOKING AT THE BOARD AND SHOUTING THE SAME IN CHORUS.......this way it is rote learning..this is what i meant by ratta and mrs. muhiuddin left mont.cdc in 2001 not 2011..which i wrote above mistakenly... since that day mcdc lost its real eccence

  49. I have also faced he same problem in MCDC IN block L my daughter is facing the physical and mental torture there and in the result her abilities are ruined the teachers are not up to mark .my elder daughter was in Bambini and son is in beezee they r fabulous dont go on the appearance of the building they really love ur children and put efforts specially BANO KISAT and REHANA .MY experience with the 3rd one is the most worst.i beg the patents that go for the BAMBINI.but one thing that they follow joining hand writing pattern not the straight pattern.

  58. THE WORST SCHOOL EVER.....
The school staff is very abrupt, rude and not at all co operative.....
They don't care about child progress they only care about monthly fees
lectures are given without any general knowledge.
Lots of complains but the response from the school was deaf and dumb Total waste of money with waste of time. No good response from teachers I would give it zero star
Regretting for wasting my daughter's future here

  63. Dear All,

MCDC used to be a good when they were new in the market (20 Years ago). I have seen it by myself in the past that Mr Anwar used to have 1 to 1 sessions with kids. They are now seems more commercial, the quality of school education has been compromised. The junior teachers are not been fully trained and they have very limited interaction with the children. The school staffs do not bother about any complaint and their behaviour is completely awful.
My little one is in senior, I have noticed that sometimes she comes home with incomplete work. The class teacher does not bother what she is doing in the class. I been told by my kid that the teacher erase the board and do not give enough time to complete work. The school standard is not as great which it used to be back in a days.
Can anyone advise a good school for girls near North Nazimabad or North Karachi?
    Cheers.

  64. Dear all,
My son's in MCDC Senior class now and I'm a proud mother, I would recommend MCDC to anyone. The teachers are very helpful Esp. My son's teacher Miss Raheel. Alhamdulillah they've mold my child so gently and intelligently, now he can make sentences about any fruit, write them, he tries to write words with sounds even if he never knew it. Yes i agree homework learning is more than a child of his age could do. But that's their problem they are preparing our children for toughest entrance tests, please stop being silly! MCDC is a great prestigious school and will remain InshaAllah.
